Daytona Sensors PC Link Software
Will Daytona Sensors software run on
the new Windows 7?
Yes! We have updated all of our
software to run on Windows 7 and Vista. If you receive an error message while
loading software from one of our CDROMs, you may have an older version. You
will have to download the latest version direct from our website. When
installing our software on Windows Vista, you must disable the User Account
Control (UAC) during installation as described in the Vista
UAC Tech Note.
Is there an easy way to install
the USB driver?
Yes, a new USB driver is available. This installs as an executable file,
similar to other Windows programs. The Windows Found New Hardware Wizard will
then detect the USB device when it is first connected and automatically
install the correct driver without the user having to browse out to the CDROM.
To install the USB driver
required for the NC-1/NC-2 Nitrous Controllers, SL-1 Shift Light, Twin Scan
II, or new WEGO series, click on the link below. Before installing the USB
driver, make sure that your USB device is not connected to your PC. The USB
driver is compatible with Windows XP/Vista/7. It will not install on older
PCs running Windows 98 or ME. For Windows Vista, you must disable the User Account
Control (UAC) during installation as described in the
Vista UAC
Tech Note. When
the File Download dialog box appears, click on "Run this program from its
current location." Ignore any security warnings and click on Yes to
continue. After installation of the driver is complete, connect the USB
device. Some devices such as the WEGO series are not powered up by the USB
connection and must be separately connected to power. The Windows Found New
Hardware Wizard will appear and complete installation of the USB device.
Then refer to the COM Port Configuration section in the instructions for
your device to properly configure its USB interface using Device Manager.

I'm having trouble completing
the installation of the USB driver on my new laptop running Windows Vista. What
can I do?
A few customers have reported issues. Please read our
Vista USB Tech Note
for an easy solution.
Help! My PC won't communicate
with the Daytona Sensors system after installing the USB driver and software.
Two situations can occur:
1. Windows Device Manager has placed the Daytona Sensors system on a high
COM port (COM10 or higher) during USB device driver installation. If this
problem occurs, make sure that the system is attached to the PC (WEGO units
must be powered up), go back into Device Manager, click on the USB Serial
Port, click on the Port Settings tab, and then click on Advanced. The dialog
box shown below will appear. Change the COM port number to a lower value
such as COM4 or COM5. Then reboot the PC and double check the port
assignment in Device Manager to make sure that it changed. Use the new COM
port number in our software.

2. Your PC already had an older incompatible USB driver installed and when the Found
New Hardware Wizard appeared during the USB device driver installation
process, the outdated driver was used. If this occurred, you will have to uninstall the USB driver. To do
so, you will require the FTClean utility. You can download this utility from
the FTDI website at www.ftdichip.com. At their website, click on Resources, click on Utilities, and then download
the FTClean driver removal utility. Click on the option to open the file in
order to install the program. Make sure any Daytona Sensors system is unplugged
from the PC before proceeding. Run FTClean to remove all old drivers. Then
start over with USB device driver installation. Make sure you carefully
follow our instructions above.
Are there issues running
Daytona Sensors software on PCs with international versions of Windows?
Our software does not provide
multilingual support. Japanese and other international customers using far
eastern languages will have to go to Control Panel and set Regional and
Language Options to English language as shown below while installing and using
our software. Failure to do so will result in various errors in numeric
parameters, communications, and file operations.

What PC link cables are
available?
All of our new products with PC
link capability have built-in USB interfaces and do not require any
special cable other than the supplied USB cable.
The older WEGO II series has an RS-232
interface that
connects to the serial port (9 pin D-sub connector) on your PC.
If
your laptop does not include a serial port, you can use a USB adapter. However, not all USB adapters will
work correctly with the WEGO II. Most of the inexpensive USB adapters are intended for
interfacing Palm Pilot type devices and do not support all the signals and
high data rate required by our WEGO II.
We
sell a low cost USB adapter (P/N USBG-232) for $39.50 that has been extensively tested with our products
and a range of laptops running Windows XP/Vista. It comes with the
correct Windows drivers on CDROM. You
can order this part from the WEGO II product page.

What is your policy on
software?
Real simple - software is
free! You can always download the latest version from our web site, make as
many copies as you want, and give them to all your friends. We make our
money selling hardware. We view software as a sales tool. It doesn't cost us
anything. Free software also solves a lot of problems with upgrades. Our
competitors don't seem to be able to figure this out. What happens if you
buy a product that has been sitting on a distributor's shelf for a year and
the software is out of date? Do you have to call tech support and wait until
a new CDROM arrives in the mail? Not with Daytona Sensors.
